Caravan Parks

Caravan Parks

The area immediately west of Rhyl — Kinmel Bay and Towyn — is one of the largest concentrations of holiday caravan accommodation in Wales. These parks have been a central part of the North Wales coast's holiday economy for decades, offering affordable family breaks within easy reach of Rhyl's beach and attractions.

Kinmel Bay and Towyn

Kinmel Bay (Bae Cinmel) adjoins Rhyl's western edge and is largely a residential and holiday park settlement. Towyn, a little further west, is dominated by large static caravan parks with their own facilities. The scale of these parks is impressive — some of the larger sites have several thousand pitches, their own bars, restaurants, entertainment programmes, swimming pools, and sports facilities. For families with young children who want a contained holiday environment with the beach nearby, they work very well.

The parks vary considerably in quality and character. Some are well-maintained with good facilities and strong entertainment programmes; others are more basic. Reading recent independent reviews before booking is advisable. The largest and best-known operators in the area include Haven, Parkdean, and various independent site owners.

Pitching a Tent or Touring

Touring caravan and tent pitches are less common than static caravan accommodation in the immediate Rhyl area. Some parks accept touring units; check individual sites. For those who prefer camping, the inland areas around St Asaph, the Vale of Clwyd, and the Clwydian Range offer more traditional camping options within easy driving distance of Rhyl.

Accessing Rhyl from the Parks

Kinmel Bay is within easy cycling or walking distance of Rhyl's western promenade. Towyn is a short drive or bus ride. The coastal cycle path connecting the area makes car-free access straightforward for those who want it. Most families based at the caravan parks treat Rhyl as a day-trip destination, visiting for the beach, SC2, and the Miniature Railway before returning to their park for the evening.

Self-Catering in Rhyl

Within Rhyl itself, a range of self-catering holiday flats and apartments are available through booking platforms. These suit those who want to be based in the town rather than on a park. Standards vary; use recent reviews as your guide. See the Accommodation page for the full picture.
